Homeless

Each Thursday at 6 ‘o clock Saint Andrew’s church in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, opens its doors to feed the homeless. Not nearly all homeless
do get there but for the ones who have the energy to reach the church
a welcoming meal of meatloaf is waiting.

It’s known as Meatloaf Thursday among the homeless but meatloaf is
not everything that’s offered. Usually the meal is served with a glass of
lemonade and in the hall there’s a box full of used clothes to be handed
out.

It’s hard not to feel for the lost souls gathered there. Many of them sleep
under a palm tree during night time and have to endure the danger that it
brings. Many of them are veterans from the Vietnam war but there are
also ordinary men who have had a real job but lost it due to their drug
addiction. This is one of those Thursdays.
